THERE WE WILL FIND LIFE TOGETHER: A Pastoral Note from Jenny:

"Dear friends,

If our view of the Good Life is focused on accumulating consumer goods and experiences for ourselves, instead of looking for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others, we could totally miss what this journey is really all about. We are indeed called to live under God’s rule, practicing economic generosity and justice-making with all that God has entrusted us. We are invited to join so many who have gone before in discovering that the good life of God is to be found not in seeking life but in losing our lives in service to God and to others.

– Tom Sine

I heard a wonderful story this week: one of the Parish Missions within Sydney Presbytery was considering when they would open for worship (once it was allowed again), and decided that their regathering criteria would be focused around when the people who could not prove they were vaccinated were also allowed to attend. Many people who visit the congregations and services of this Parish Mission do not have mobile phones, or fixed addresses. They do not have means of identification or ways their immunisation status can be proven. And so, gathering for worship will be a thing again when these people will not have to be turned away."

FROM CHRISTIAN STUDENTS UNITING:

One of our talented members, Hannah Roux, wrote this wonderful prose titled 𝘚𝘒𝘐𝘕. Here is an excerpt, read the full piece below.

"We say, sometimes, that someone is self-possessed, or comfortable in their skin. I think we mean that the distance between their inner life and their outer is smaller. It is more apparent who they really are because who they really are is close to the surface. Their skin fits them. But how can we tell if someone’s insides fit their outsides? Only by looking at the outsides. Without the outside, how could we see anything?"

FROM NATIONAL ASSEMBLY:

As the Season of Creation comes to a close and as the world anticipates the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), we are encouraging UCA congregations and members to add their voices to those calling for urgent action on the climate crisis.

Below are some key opportunities in October to get involved, as an expression of the care for God's creation which is core to our faith.

FROM REV. JANE FRY:

Why are the people of God in the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW and the ACT, on the move?

In 2019, the Synod committed to ‘focus on growth’ and asked all of the councils of the church to ‘re-organise’ themselves for growth in relationship, discipleship, number and impact. The Future Directions resolutions recently approved by Synod 2021 represent some initial efforts towards that reorganisation and continued the surprising eruption of energy, momentum and hope that began in 2019. Surprising, because we’re in the world of the pandemic and yet momentum and enthusiasm continue to characterize the decisions of the recent – admittedly very long – Synod meeting.
